Cong's 6th list out, Elvis gets Panaji seat
The Congress late on Thursday released its sixth list of five candidates, including former bureaucrat, Elvis Gomes for Panaji and former MLA, Carlos Almeida for Vasco.
Interestingly, former minister Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco has lost out on the ticket in Benaulim to Tony Dias, who recently quit the Trinamool Congress and joined the Congress.
The list issued by AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik also names businessman Amit Patkar for Curchorem and Tukaram Borkar for Shiroda.
Gomes who initially was angling for the Congress ticket in his home constituency of Cuncolim has been accommodated in Panaji after the party named Yuri Alemao in its first list. In Panaji too he had faced stiff intra-party competition with former CCP mayors Surendra Furtado and Uday Madkaikar also in contention.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) released its first list of four candidates with its State president and former minister Jose Philip D'Souza pitted in Dabolim.
The three other NCP candidates named are Rehan Muzawar for Navelim, Digvijay Verlekar in Priol and Dr Subhash Prabhu Desai for Shiroda.
