Farming next on agenda of Smart Sanvorcotto

Cuncolim, South Goa India: There is no stopping for Smart Sanvorcotto. The march is on. After successfully installing convex mirrors at key locations in the vaddo, providing nebulizers for those in need during the peak Covid19, providing food for covid patients and families during Covid19, free ration to the needy in the village, installing LED lights at key locations and umbrellas to senior citizens in the ward. Thanks, in a large measure to the benevolence of donors based in the ward and those who have a connection with the vaddo but are based elsewhere, the projects have seen the light of the day. The projects are several initiatives launched under the leadership of councillor John Dias for the residents of the ward under the banner of Smart Sanvorcotto. Smart Sanvorcotto Core committee constitutes are residents of the Ward who have come under one banner to pitch with their ideas and contribute to the overall good of its residents and make it an easier and comfortable place for the people of the locality. Around 40 senior citizens of Sanvorcotto in Cuncolim municipal area were gifted Umbrellas at a function held recently. A well-wisher donated 5 LED lights towards # Smart Sanvorcotto illumination mission. Smart Sanvorcotto volunteers have been active during the COvid19 tams reaching out to people in need with rations and meals to families and patients who have been home quarantined. From April, Smart Sanvorcotto was on a mission to make the place a smart place in all aspects and they are well on the track. Municipal election over, the first thing they did was to install convex mirrors at six places in Sanvorcotto and plans are afoot to install some CCTV cameras. It was a birthday gift to people of Sanvorcotto by the newly elected councilor John Dias and where inaugurated by the senior citizens of the Ward. Away from the cameras they have made plans to give ration for needy. Families were identified and quarterly ration for 10 families through sponsorship was arranged. Also around 50 steamer/nebuliser, have been handed over to some needy and deserving families during the height of COVID pandemic in May-June period this year. The focus now has shifted to farming. “Any one from our Sanvorcotto ward wants to take the steps in farming and need help to avail various schemes available. Please message me or call me directly,” John Dias, Ward councilor, said in his WhatsApp message in the Sanvorcotto group, while urging people to forward the message so as to reach maximum number of people. The ward councilor was referring to the various government schemes which are available which his constituents could avail of. But there is another silver lining on the map. Goa Sudharop, a Non-governmental organization which has its roots in United States of America (USA) have stepped to give farming a boost in the state and it will be good idea to get help from the NGO. The NGO have helped a few people in Goa to restart farming including Sarzora village. “We provide weed cutter, electric saw, high power water pumps, power tiller, Tractor, driller and some other equipment’s for people interested in farming,” said fashion designer Verma D’Mello, who is coordinating Goa Sudharop efforts on the ground in Goa. “We are ready to help and excited to see more people around Goa get back to farming. We must preserve our paddy fields,” said Verma, who traces her roots to Orlim village in South Goa.
