Cuncolim’s pride and Goa’s shining star Sammy Tavares conferred President Medal

Dazzles on Konkani stage and excels in police force











Cuncolim: Governor Shreedharan Pillai on Wednesday awarded Sammy Tavares, Superintendant of police and Dattaram Raut, Police Inspector were with the President Medal for their extraordinary service.

Dr Suresh Shanbhoge, Director of the Civil Aviation and Sebastiao Godinho, Security Officer, Secretariat, were also felicitated for their tremendous service to the State.

Pillai appealed to the bureaucrats to introspect on various aspects including whether they are giving dedicated service to the public and whether their heart is free from corruption or not.

Delivering his first address on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day at Campal-Parade ground, the Governor urged the voters of Goa to enthusiastically participate in the upcoming voting process by strictly following the COVID-19 protocols.

He also urged the people to pledge to remain faithful to the Constitution of India in letter and spirit.

Urging public to work at their fullest to protect the concept of sovereignty, Pillai said, “The Preamble of Constitution begins with ‘We The People’ which means the people are supreme in our country and everyone else is sub-ordinate to them.”

Stating that the justice, liberty, equality and fraternity are important aspects for the human kind to live in the country, Pillai said, “Goa is the only State in the country where directive principles of welfare State is given the maximum importance as per Article 44 of the Constitution.”

Stating that 98 per cent population of Goa is fully vaccinated, Pillai praised the doctors, frontline and health care workers for their remarkable service towards protecting people against the pandemic.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, First Lady Rita Pillai, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Secretaries to the government, senior defence officers and senior officers of State and Central government were also present.
