CUNCOLIM: Agitated Cuncolim locals under leadership of local MLA Clafacio Dias and BJP-supported councillors gheraoed Chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council Laxman Naik and grilled him for locking the proposed emergency medical care centre and rural medical dispensary building at Talebhat, Cuncolim, on Thursday.

Chairperson Naik is not ready to hand over the municipal building to start Emergency Health Care Centre citing various reasons. The chairperson informed the agitators that the issue was not discussed in the council meeting and the building was not licenced by the Fire Department and there was no electricity and water supply and hence will not allow the Health Department to start health care centre in the municipal building without completing all the formalities.

However, MLA Clafacio, BJP-supporters councillors and agitated locals told the chairperson that the Directorate of Municipal Administration and Chief Officer have already issued permission to set-up health care centre and all required licences and permissions are obtained and not to make it as a political issue and allow to start the work which was refused by the council. Later, the agitated locals broke the locks and took possession of the building to start the health centre work.

MLA Clafacio and BJP councillors Vishal Desai, Rahul Desai, Polita Carnero, Rupa Gaonkar accused Naik of playing politics.

The councillors said that Naik is dancing to the tunes of his mentor Yuri Alemao and on his pressure trying to play with the emotions of Cuncolim locals, which will be not allowed at any cost.

According to the available information, the corporation has constructed a one-storey building at Talayebhat-Cuncolim with the funds from the Goa Liberation Golden Jubilee Fund. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had recently inspected the building and has instructed the municipal authorities to start the work. The building has got all the necessary permits and certificates.
