Cruz Silva of AAP wins Velim by 169 votes

The gradual rise of Engineer Cruz Silva from 3423 in 2017 to 5221 votes in 2022

Cruz polled 5390 votes against Savio D'Silva of Congress who finished second with 5221 votes followed by two former MLA's Benjamin D'Silva (4134) and Felipe Neri Rodrigues( 3420), contesting on NCP ticket. Savio Rodrigues of BJP ticket got 1331 votes while Dagley Fernandes contesting on Revolutionary Goans ticket surprised all by getting 3653 votes.

The 3653 votes reflect the strong anti-migrant feelings expressed by the silent voters which many a party underestimated. There is very much a needed for a regional party that is the message if one reads between the lines.

The NATO column shows 239 votes.

In 2012, Benjamin Silva of IND emerged victorious in this seat beating Filipe Nery Rodrigues of INC by a margin of 4,926 votes which was 22.26% of the total votes polled in the constituency. IND had a vote share of 59.49% in the seat.

What happened last time

In the Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Velim constituency had 12 candidates for assembly seat contention. Total 17 seats were won by the Indian National Congress, Velim was one of them. The election for Velim seat was comfortably won by Indian National Congress's Filipe Nery Rodrigues defeating independent candidate Benjamin Silva by a huge margin of 5,253 votes.

The top three candidates split 81.7% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Filipe Nery Rodrigues got a total of 10,417 votes, while independent candidate Benjamin Silva secured 5,164 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Cruz Silva grabbed the third spot with 3,423 votes. The top three parties got 44.8%, 22.2% and 14.7% respectively.
