Collapsed wall of Cabo de Rama fort needs urgent attention, says Prajal Sakhardande

Historian Prajal Sakhardande has appealed to the State government to immediately look into the matter of a wall at the fort at Cabo de Rama that is located in Khola, Canacona.

Sakhardande, who is a professor, along with others like Aditya Watve and Atul Watve visited the fort and expressed their dismay at the present situation.

“A wall of the historic heritage Cabo de Rama Fort of the Soundekar king has collapsed and the entire fort is in a precarious condition. We appeal to the Goa State Archaeology Department to conserve this wall with the original stones lying there as debris,” said Sakhardande.

“It needs conservation, not renovation. In the name of renovation we do not want the fort to be built anew. To maintain its historic authenticity, the original stone's heritage character cannot be altered,” he added.

He also detailed the rich history of the monument while reasoning why this incident requires urgent attention.

The ancient fort that predates the Portuguese rule, making it one of the oldest forts in Goa, is a popular tourist attraction.

This is not the first time heritage enthusiasts have called upon the State government to improve the fort’s condition.
